A burgeoning marine business is moving into Wear waters, after signing a deal with Port of Sunderland to make the city its base.

Green Marine Solutions (GMS), a marine coordination and offshore operations specialist backed by investment from Northstar Ventures, has agreed to make Port of Sunderland its headquarters and will move to a site that is currently being renovated, as it prepares for further growth.

The business, which also has a base in Glasgow’s Inovo building, will operate as a team of six at the port.

Justin Moseley, managing director of GMS, which provides a range of specialist services to owners, operators and contractors of offshore wind farms, said that the move to Port of Sunderland was a strategic decision, allowing the company to tap into the growing offshore market.

“Port of Sunderland is ideally placed to exploit the opportunities that exist in the offshore sector, and we are keen to be part of that,” said Moseley.

Councillor Paul Watson, leader of Sunderland City Council and chairman of the Port of Sunderland board, added: “The port was once a forgotten asset, but with new investment going into it, and more and more businesses spotting the potential it has, it is transforming into a hub for the offshore and renewable sectors.”
