LED lighting manufacturer Low Carbon Lighting (LCL) is beginning the financial year with a move to larger premises in Cramlington, following a period of significant growth.
The company, which designs and builds energy efficient lighting solutions, will be opening the new factory at Easter Park, in the Nelson Park West Industrial Estate. All stages of the product development process, right through to production, will now take place in the North East.
The move follows a series of large contract wins and the development of several new industrial lighting products. The company, which has been operating from the North East since 2010, designs and produces low energy LED-based lighting products for non-domestic use. Recent contracts have seen the company supplying 5000 streetlights for local authorities in the UK and high bay lighting units for leisure & manufacturing industries.
Michael McNeill, Chief Executive of LCL said: “Since our company’s inception it has been important to us to be part of the North East’s efforts to become a leading science and technology centre. Now that the company is growing rapidly we are proud to take our place as a manufacturer in the region.
“We have always designed and developed our luminaires locally, and the move to our new factory means we are able to expand our range of products and increase manufacturing in the region. We are looking forward to joining the growing hub of energy efficient lighting companies based in the Northumberland area.”
The company has previously been supported by funding from The Finance for Business North East (FBNE) fund – also known as the JEREMIE programme. Funding was provided by Northstar Ventures, which manages the FBNE Proof of Concept and Accelerator Funds, and IP Group plc, which manages the FBNE Technology Fund.
